When it comes to this painting technique, you really have quite a bit of flexibility. I generally use Arches CP paper primarily, but softer papers, such as Fabriano, Fluid 100, etc., even student-grade papers can work very nicely. If you like, experiment with both hot-press and cold-press papers and see what happens and which one you prefer.

In general, you can use many of the brushes that you already have but will want to lean towards the ones that hold more water, to make this more fun, try brushes that have different shape tips and angles.

I like to use a small squirrel, a cat's tongue, and a dagger or sword brush handy (if you don’t have them, that’s okay); they make this painting style more fun.

Brushes I use: Wash brush, Med Sword or dagger brush, # 30 Natural, #20, #14 Sable/Synthetic, #1, #3 Squirrel, #8 Escota, Med Cat's Tongue, Wash brush - any kind (I used a Wash Mottler #60)
