Do your barns look dry, stiff, or like a cartoon?

Conveying the mood and atmosphere of the scene is essential in any painting, but it can be particularly challenging with barns. Barns typically have weathered wood, rusted metal, and other textured surfaces, so keep it simple. Capturing these subtle variations while maintaining harmony in the overall composition requires a keen eye for color and a nuanced understanding of atmosphere.

Depending on factors like weather, time of day, and location, a barn's colors can vary widely. Inspired by the Pierce Point Ranch in the Point Reyes National Seashore, enjoy using techniques that can be applied to any barn that is special to you.
