Creating cityscapes, whether in watercolor or any other medium, can present several challenges that artists often need to navigate:
In this course, we will immerse ourselves in the essence of two distinct locales: the bustling streets and iconic church of San Francisco and the quaint alleys of an Italian village.
The church stands tall amidst the cityscape, its intricate architecture highlighted by the interplay of sunlight and shadows through careful brushstrokes and a palette that blends the city's vibrant hues with its characteristic foggy grays, the essence of San Francisco comes alive on paper.
The alleys of an Italian village beckon with their timeless charm and narrow pathways. The focus shifts to capturing the warmth of Mediterranean light filtering through the cobblestone streets, creating patterns of light and shadow that dance upon ancient facades and rustic doorways.

Cityscapes
San Francisco Church
This focused lesson of a church in San Francisco specificity allows for in-depth exploration of techniques required to capture the architecture, light, and atmosphere unique to this setting.
Painting a complicated group of buildings, such as a church, can be challenging. The course provides strategies for simplifying complex forms, dealing with perspective, and managing architectural details effectively.
Learning to paint from a less-than-ideal reference photo is a valuable skill. This course teaches methods for interpreting and enhancing reference images and making the most out of what's available. Eliminating distractions (like traffic) and excessive detail helps focus the viewer's attention on the main subject—the church itself. Understanding how to compose a scene effectively enhances the impact of your painting.
Italian Village
Embarking on a journey through the quaint alleys of an Italian village, the focus shifts towards mastering the interplay of light and values. As one passes beneath a stone bridge, sunlight cascades down from the winding walkways above, illuminating the scene with subtle nuances of shadow and brilliance. The challenge lies in capturing this delicate dance of light and shade, where every corner reveals a new perspective on the village's timeless beauty.
